EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The owner of a former Eau Claire construction pleaded guilty to skipping town after accepting a $12,300 down payment for a bathroom remodeling project. Douglas Von Eschen, 37, now of Las Vegas, Nevada, entered the plea in a video conference. Von Eschen, who owned Energy Performance Remodelers in Eau Claire, had bid $24,000 for the project.
