WASHINGTON — Senator Ron Johnson, R-Wis., tested positive for coronavirus after being exposed to an infected person. Johnson, who is 65, said he feels healthy with no symptoms. He said he will remain isolated until given the all-clear by his doctor. Johnson didn’t name the likely source of transmission but said it occurred Tuesday, which was shortly after he returned to Washington from his home in Oshkosh. It is likely the infection originated at one of several senior-level gathering of Republicans, which, it turns out, was among COVID hotbeds. Johnson’s new infection is his second COVID scare. The first time he was exposed, September 14, he stayed in quarantine for 14 days without developing symptoms and tested negative twice during that time.

Johnson has been an unwavering Republican ally of President Trump. He has been a point man for Trump’s re-election campaign as conduit of sketchy information linking Trump’s Democratic challenger Joe Biden to messy Ukrainian politics in 2014.
