WINONA, Minn. – Because of fast-spawning CoVid infections, the usually elbow-to-elbow Democratic precinct caucuses in Winona County have been scrapped. The caucusing, part of the November election process, instead will be on a form to be submitted online at winonadfl.org or dropped off at designated sites. Precinct caucuses are where delegates are chosen to the county convention and to solicit issues for county-level consideration. In a news release the party called the new caucuses a “contactless” alternative intended “to preserve grassroots democracy at the heart of the DFL and protect the health of participants, their families and communities.” Forms are due February 1. The contactless alternative also is being adopted by many DFL county organizations statewide.
