GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The executive director of the Michigan Freedom Fund, Tony Daunt, called it a political distraction for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to link U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to the Operation Gridlock protest in Lansing. DeVos has supported the Michigan Freedom Fund financially over the years, but Daubt said the Fund’s only involvement has been $250 to promote the Operation Gridlock on social media. DeVos has no connection the protest, Daunt said. He accused Gov. Whitmer of “recklessly playing politics.” Instead, he said, Whitmer should be listening to Michiganders about the stay-at-home order. “She’s seeking to distract from the fact that thousands of people are upset.”
