MADISON, Wis. – State Supreme Court justices gave the attorneys for President Trump a tough time in his argument to reverse Trump’s Wisconsin loss to Joe Biden. Justice Jill Karofsky said to Trump’s attorney, Jim Troup: “I do not know how you can come before this court and possibly ask for a remedy that is unheard of in U.S. history.” She called Troup’s arguments racist. Troup, in effect, sought that votes in Milwaukee and Dane counties be thrown out. The two counties have heavier minority populations than the rest of Wisconsin. On its surface, the Troup argument sidesteps race by attacking Wisconsin’s absentee voting process. To that, Justice Rebecca Dallet questioned why Trump didn’t raise such concerns in the courts earlier. Justice Rebecca Bradley questioned how Troup could justify rejecting absentee ballots from voters who were confined by the COVID -pandemic.
