ST. PAUL, Minn. – A surge in speeding arrests for driving over 100 mph has accompanied the coronavirus pandemic, the State Patrol reported. Some 232 drivers were pulled over from April 1 to May 21, compared to 93 a year earlier — a 149% increase.” Why so? Who knows, but the Patrol noted that fewer vehicles on the road may have been an invitation to go like crazy. In any event, the data gave the Patrol an opportunity to note that 100-plus may mean license revocation for at least six months plus a hefty fine, not to mention higher insurance premiums for years and years. Also, speeding at 100 mph is a misdemeanor, not just a petty crime, and can mean 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
