MADSON, Wis. – Americans owe it to Afghans who helped keep U.S. troops safe during the 20-year Afghan war to accept them as refugees,  Governor Tony Evers said. Many of an estimated 30,000 refugees are expected at U.S. resettlement sites, including Fort McCoy in western Wisconsin, as Step Number 1 in resettlement. “Many Afghan people now fleeing their homes have bravely contributed to work in Afghanistan over the past two decades,” Evers said. “Just as they protected us in serving our country and helped keep our troops safe, we owe it to them to protect and keep them safe.”
