WINONA, Minn. – Fire Chief Curt Bittle is worried. What happens if there’s a downtown fire and not enough firefighters are available, Bittle asked: “What do I do if I have 65% or 70% of the staff is out?” So far into the pandemic, he said in a KWNO radio interview, he’s maintained full-time staff levels by shuffling schedules to work around virus-benched full-time and part-time firefighters.
