FORT MCCOY, Wis. – So far 8,780 Afghan refugees have arrived at Fort McCoy as a way station en route to resettlement, most of them probably in the United States, , a spokeswoman for a refugee  task, said.  Fort McCoy s equipped to house 13,000. The support staff is 1,390, said Cheryl Phillips, the spokesperson. Other sites have been opened for resettlement:

> Fort Bliss, near El Paso, 4,300.

> Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst,  near Lakehurst, New Jersey, 3,500.

> Fort Pickett, near Blackstone, Virginia, 3,300.

> Fort Lee, near Trenton, New Jersey, 1,700

> Marine Base Quantico, near Quantico, Virginia, 600.

> Holloman Air Force Base, near Alamogordo, New Mexico, 100.
