WINONA, Minn. – An exhibit of German expressionism continues through fall at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum, including work of Emil Nolde on loan from a private collection.  Nolde, who died in 1956 at age 89, was known for his oil and watercolor brushwork and expressive colors, mostly golden yellows and deep reds in brooding storm-scapes. He alslo was known brilliant florals. On exhibit too are works by other German Expressionists: Max Beckmann, Otto Dix, Lyonel Feininger, Erich Heckel, Wassily Kandinsky, Ernst Kirchner, Gabriele Münter, and Max Pechstein. Their movement focused less on detail than on the human spirit and the emotion evoked by their image.
