ST. PAUL, Minn. – Governor Tim Walz said he was monitoring events in suburban Brooklyn Heights closely in the wake of a fatal police shooting. The governor cautioned against exploiting the tragedy. He said the largest police presence in Minnesota history was prepared to arrest law-breakers. Walz already had activated 2,000 members of the state National Guard for any eventualities that might stem from the Derek Chauvin murder trial under way in Minneapolis for the death of George Floyd. About 100 Guard soldiers have been present in the background at the Hennepin County courthouse where Chauvin is being tried. Now with a second police killing, in Brooklyn Center, Walz, is positioned to activate another 400 on short notice. Standing by also are 1.500 other Guard soldiers.
