ADAMS, Minn. – Police evacuated a rural area south of Adams for fear that toxic chemicals were being released in a hog barn fire. The barn was vacant – no people or hogs inside. The building had been treated with chemicals early in the day. The fire was reported at 3:30 p.m., raising the possibility that smoke could be carrying chemicals. Mower County deputies raced door to door to warn neighbors to evacuate. By 6 o’clock the fire had been extinguished and the area was deemed safe.
