LACROSSE, Wis. – The Weinermobile provoked the usual adult chuckles and children’s curiosity in starting six days being steered around LaCrosse. The Weinermobile was invented in 1936 by Oscar Mayer’s nephew, Carl G. Mayer. Today there’a fleet. Drivers known as Hotdoggers often hand out toy whistles, called wienerwhistles, which are shaped like a Wienermobile.
