WINONA, Minn. – A Dakota man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for stabbing and bludgeoning his Alzheimer’s-afflicted wife to death. The sentence for Joseph B. Wright, 80, was levied by Judge Mary Leahy. The charge was second-degree murder. Wright had asked for probation, but the judge didn’t accept his explanation that it was a mercy killing. She said told Wight that he had options available to deal with his wife Clara’s condition. He has spent the past year in the Winona County jail.
