MADISON, Wis. – At a low-profile gathering in a city park, Attorney General Josh Kaul announced his candidacy for a second term. It was an invitation-only event. The announcement was no surprise. Kaul has been raising money and organizing campaign staff for weeks. So far two Republicans have announced:

> Ryan Owens, a University of Wisconsin-Madison law professor.

> Eric Toney, district attorney for Fond du Lac County.

Kaul grew up in Fond du Lac and Oshkosh. He majored in history and economics at Yale, graduating with honors. His law degree is from Stanford. Kaul is Wisconsin’s first Democrat attorney general since his mother, Peggy Lautenschlager. She held the post one term beginning in 2003.
