BEMIDJI, Minn. – A Bemidji man died in a Fargo hospital after being pulled from a submerged vehicle that crashed through the ice on Lake Bemidji. Firefighter wearing special cold water rescue gear pulled John Herman Klassen III, 69, out of the vehicle, which was in 8 to 10 feet of water off Diamond Point. First-responders attempted to revive the man, then air-lifted him 100 miles to a Fargo, North Dakota, hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Sheriff Ernie Beitel said a woman managed to escape and get out of the water. This was about 5:30 p.m. Ice was 4 to 5 inches thick.
