MINNEAPOLIS – Opponents of Enbridge Energy’s Line 3 oil pipeline across northern Minnesota appealed to the state Supreme Court to overturn a lower court decision that approved the project. the project. The project is opposed by tribal and environmental groups. Earlier the state Commerce Department was a party to the suit but has not signed on to the latest appeal. Line 3 has been contentious in mounting opposition that included a massive protest with 500 arrests in June. Opponents, meanwhile, have called more transparency from state officials about a spill last week of drilling mud into the Willow River, a Mississippi tributary.  The spill was unreported by the state for eight days.
