AITKEN, Minn. – A spill of drilling mud got away from an Enbridge Energy construction site on the Line 3 oil pipeline project and went into the Willow River. Between 80 to 100 gallons of drilling fluid were involved. The spill occurred July 6, the state Pollution Control Agency reported belatedly. The agency said Enbridge immediately stopped the drilling and reassigned crews to containment and cleanup. The Willow River is a 45-mile flow through swampy regions. The flow enters the Mississippi River 85 miles west of Duluth.
