NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans magician who created the faked Biden robocalls for the Hew Hampshire presidential primary said he was punked into doing it. Paul Carpenter said he had believed that the political consultant who hired him to make the recordings was with the Biden campaign — not Biden’s Minnesota challenger Dean Philips. When Carpenter realized he had been duped, Carpenter said, he texted the Philips operative, Steve Kramer: “Dude, what’s going on?” Carpenter quoted Kramer’s response:
“Hahaha. It’s all good. Don’t worry about it. Just delete all the emails. Act like nothing happened .Don’t worry about t. It’s going to disappear.”
Carpenter instead contacted an NBC reporter, who broke the story natioally. Later, Carpenter said, he learned that criminal investigations had been launched. In his defense as creater of the rbocall, Carpenter said: “I created the gun. I didn’t shoot it.”
