AUSTIN, Minn. – An Austin man, Jaime Vaca, 27, was charged with stabbing and critically wounding his wife and killing her juvenile son during a domestic fight. The criminal complaint said violence broke out in the couple’s bedroom during a fight over Vaca quitting his job. Police Chief David McKichan said that Vaca admitted to strangling his wife and grabbing a knife and stabbing his wife. He then swung the knife at his stepson, also in the neck, as the stepson tried to pull him off the mother, according to the criminal complaint.  The mother ran to another room, called 911, then found her way outside and collapsed. When a SWAT team entered the house, Vaca was inside a bathroom. He was subdued with a stun gun after he refused to drop a knife, police said. He was treated for minor injuries. Police reported finding five more children hiding upstairs. The criminal complaint quoted Vaca that after the attack he “ran upstairs and kissed his kids goodbye.” Told later by police that the boy had died from his wounds, Vaca said “I’m a murderer” and put his head down, the complaint said.
