LACROSSE, Wis. – Members of a healthcare union protested with a march against new debt collection policies at the giant health Gundersen hospital and clinic. The marchers, members of theService Employees International Union, said Gundersen has been aggressively suing patients to collect medical debts. Organizer Amy Dummer said that Gundersen employees themselves have been targeted to have salaries garnished. Gundersen should forgive medical debt and provide affordable insurance to employees, Dummer said. The protesters marched six blocks from Poage Park to the main Gundersen facility on South Avenue. The service employees have the largest health care union in Wisconsin.
