ST. PAUL, Minn. — Governor Tim Walz activated the National Guard to find motorists stranded by the blizzard across the wide-open spaces of rural southwest Minnesota. Nobody knows for sure how many motorists are out there, the governor said. The Guard converted its Albert Lea armory into an emergency shelter. Address: 410 Prospect Avenue. The storm arrived Wednesday with powdery snow, then turned butter cold with blizzard-driven drifting– just as holiday travel was peaking ahead of Christmas weekend.
