LACROSSE, Wis – La Crosse City Council member Mark Neumann, a retired pediatrician, has his hat in the ring for Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District. It’s a crowded field for the Democratic primary to succeed Ron Kind, who first went to Congress in 1997 and is now retiring. Also seeking the nomination:
> State Senator Brad Pfaff of Onalaska.
> Business owner Rebecca Cook of Eau Claire.
> Retired CIA officer Deb McGrath of Menomonie.
> Navy veteran Brett Knudsen of Holmen.
The primary is August 9. Kind already has endorsed Pfaff. Neumann has challenged Kind before. In 2020 he won 19% of the votes in the primary. Neumann said he was compelled to run in 2020 because Kind had failed to support single-payer health care, sometimes called “Medicare for All.” Neumann said the issue remains a priority for him.
