ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Army Corps of Engineers has a new commander for the Upper Mississippi. Colonel Eric Swenson replaces Colonel Karl Jansen. Swenson most recently was a battalion commander and faculty member at the Army’s West Point academy. In his 24 years in the Corps Swenson has specialized in leadership, engineering. He holds a doctorate in industrial engineering from Penn State University and a master’s degree in national security from the Naval War College.

Changing of the guard. Swenson receives the district colors from Major General Diana Holland, Mississippi Valley Division commander, to becomes the Upper Mississippi district’s 67th commander since the district was created in 1866 to manage navigation.
