No surprise: Minnesota GOP delegation all for Trump

2024 07 15 GOP molw cvntmn - Winona Journal

Minnesota delegation unanimous. In a roll call of the states at the Republican National convention, the party’s Minnesota chair, David Hann, pledged his delegates for Donald Trump for president. The nomination had already been sewed up by Forida in the alphabetical roll call. Nonetheless, every Minnesota delegate was riveted to the leaderboard.

Verbatim

Hamm: “Madam Secretary: The great state of Minnesota, the battleground state of Minnesota, which  will elect a Republican for president for the first since 1972 this year, Minnesota, the first state to fight to preserve our nation in 1861, today to preserve our nation again, we Minnesotans proudly pledge all 39 of our delegates for our next president, Donald J. Trump.” In his excitement, Hann misspoke about 1972. He literally forgot Richard Nixon, 1969-1974; Gerald Ford, 1974-1977; Ronald Reagan, 1981-1989; George H.W. Bush, 1989-1993; George W. Bush, 2001-2009; and Trump, 2017-2021. He more likely meant that Minnesota hadn’t gone Republican for president since 1972, which is correct.

Expect fewer Rochester lawns, more prairie looks

ROCHESTER, Minn. — The Rochester City Council relaxed its limits on weeds to allow property owners to abandon lawns and go with natural landscaping. The ordinance change, however, isn’t a free-for-all for weeds. Boulevards will still need to be turf and manicured. Also: Noxious weeds that threaten human or animal well-being are banned. The change moves Rochester into compliance with a state law that allows natural landscapes so long as they are planned, intentional and maintained. There also is a 12-inch maximum for most grasses.

Gow: UW-L faculty probe was a bamboozle

LACROSSE, Wis. – A faculty committee that recommended that former UW-LaCrosse Chancellor  Joe Gow be denied a faculty position was flawed seriously, he said. Gow called the report lacking.  “I’ve read the full report several times,” he said. “It’s very confusing and fails to provide a solid reason to fire me from my tenured faculty position.” Attorneys for the five-member faculty committee were manipulated — his wording was “basically fooled” — into a vote to satisfy the UW system Board of Regents. The regents have been unfriendly to Gow over a sideline producing videos with his wife on improving sexual satisfaction.
