LAKE CITY, Minn. – Despite warming temperatures, the ice pack on Lake Pepin grew to 27 inches in places in the past week, the Army Corps of Engineers reported. Navigation typically opens sometime in mid-March at 12 inches. The thickness is measured at 22 points in the navigation channel.
March 9: Thickest ice 27 inches.
