ST. PAUL, Minn. – The whole Minnesota Democratic machine is crashing in on State Representative John Thompson to step down. The calls for resignation followed a mounting litany of reports of violent behavior, misrepresentations, and even using the race card. Thompson, a Democrat himself, is black. Among Democrat leaders calling for Thompson to quit:

> Governor Tim Walz.

> Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan.

> House Speaker Melissa Hortman.

> House Majority Leader Ryan Winkler.

> State Democratic chair Ken Martin.

In 2020 tthe Minneapolis Police Federation called on Governor Tim Walz and House Speaker Melissa Hortman to withdraw their endorsements of black Democratic legislative candidate John Thompson. Both Walz and Hortman, who are Democrats and white, declined. Thompson went on to win the House District 67A seat in a landslide. The police union had been upset at a protest that Thompson had led against police lieutenant Bob Kroll outside his home.
