SPARTA, Wis. – A Melvina couple was sentenced to four years in prison for neglecting their children, even locking them in makeshift cages in their house and tying them to horse troughs. Judge Todd Ziegler also ordered seven years of extended supervision for Travis and Amy Headrick. According to investigators, some abuses went back 10 years when some of the children were still in diapers. ““This is extremely serious,” said Judge Ziegler. “It’s horrible, despicable,” Even so, the judge accepted a plea deal that had been arranged February. Originally the couple faced nine counts, but deal reduced the counts to three. They were ordered never to contact the children, some of whom were adopted.
