MARSHALL, Minn.— The faculty union president at Minnesota State colleges, including Winona State, denounced an executive order from President Trump that attempts to bar language widely used in anti-racism and anti-sexism courses. Trump’s order characterizes anti-racism as a “divisive concept” that discriminates against white men. Anti-racism, Trump says, is “inherently racist and sexist.” Brent Jeffers, president of the statewide Inter-Faculty Organization, called Trump’s view “insidious.” Jeffers said the terms that Trump targets are at the core of college courses in ethnicity, history, sociology and others. Said Jeffers: “We maintain unwavering support for academic freedom for faculty, and will defend the instructional expertise of faculty against any attempted censorship or restriction.”
