PLEASANTON, Calf. –John Madden, 85, who was born in Austin Minnesota, and who became a football Hall of Fame coach, died unexpectedly. The family did not announce a cause of death. As coach of the Oakland Raiders, Madden compiled a stellar 103-32-7 regular-season record and led the team to victory in the 1977 Super Bowl. Later he was an exuberant sportscaster known for simple explanation. He also was the name behind video game “Madden NFL Football.”
