ALEXANDRIA, Minn. – In a belated welcome home ceremony, 65 Minnesota National Gard soldiers were thanked for their service. Captain Tom Bowers, battery commander, praised their professionalism and performance in Iraq and Afghanistan as in “the exemplary legacy of the Red Bull Division.”  The soldiers provided security with the land-based Phalanx weapon system to intercept rockets, artillery and mortars. The battery is based in Alexandria but has soldiers 60 Minnesota communities. The soldiers actually returned in July from a nine-month deployment, but the ceremony was delayed “to give back time to soldiers and their families to reconnect,” a Guard spokesperson said.
