ROCHESTER, Minn. – A right-leaning Golden Valley-based activist organization, the Center of the American Experiment, sued the Rochester Golf and Country Club for cancelling an event scheduled at the club. It seems some club members disapproved of the group’s fringe views. The event had been booked for March 15, but the club cancelled two days earlier and returned a $300 deposit. The topic – a panel with Sheriff Kevin Torgerson and Police Chief Jim Franklin on what American Experiment calls its “proven strategies to reduce crime.” There had been a petition Country Cub member circulated by Erin Nystrom of Change.org against the event. The American Experiment group said the petition was loaded with “twisted and false” assertions. The event has been re scheduled elsewhere for April 26 – one day before county Judge Christina Stevens hears thye breach contract suit.

The Center produces papers on Minnesota’s economy, education, health care, the family, employee freedom, and state and local governance. There is a conspiratorial bent in its emphasis on free enterprise, limited government, personal responsibility, and government accountability. It is suspicious of pubic education and favors home schooling. It opposes electric cars and wind turbines, as well as rent controls and government subsidies for school meals. The organization publishes a slick quarterly magazine, Thinking Minnesota.
