PRESTON, Minn. — A proposal to stop a proposed $65 million sports and recreation park in southeast Rochester failed in the Minnesota Legislature. State Senator Greg Davds, a Preston Republican, said time ran out in the 2026 legislative session to get the bill through committees. Davids had sponsored the bill in the Senate. The bill’s prime sponsors were Representatives Kim Hicks, Tina Liebling and Andy Smith. All are Rochester Democrats. They had wanted to derail the project, arguing that promoters of the complex had committed a bait-and-switch. Voters who approved new taxes for the project, they said, would never how plans were distorted in recent revisions.
