MINNEAPOLIS— A man being investigated for $30 million in fraudulent claims for Federal Child Nutrition Program funds was stopped at the Minneapolis airport en route to Kenya. Mohamed Jama Ismail, 49, of the Minneapolis suburb of Savage, had flown into MSP from from Rochester for connections to Amsterdam and Nairobi. He had been linked in January to several companies that received “suspiciously high amounts of reimbursements” from child nutrition moneys from May 2020 to January 2022. Ismail’s passport had been confiscated in a raid on his home in January but somehow had obtained a replacement. It was a further fraud, agents said.
