WINONA, Minn. – A scientist noted for explaining science in terms for lay people to understand easily, Bill Nye, has signed on as Winona State’s University’s fall Lyceum speaker. Nye, known usually as “Nye the Science Guy,” will speak November 1. His subject: “Unstoppable: Harnessing Science to Change the World.” Nye is a leading champion for public change to reverse global warming, which he sees a threat to the globe and human civilization. He has agreed to take audience questions. The presentation will be in the 700-seat Johnson Auditorium in the Somsen administration building. Time: 7 p.m.

Popularizing science. His goal: “To foster a scientifically literate society and to help people everywhere understand and appreciate the science that makes our world work.”
Nye profile
His first book for a general audience, “Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation,” was a New York Times best-seller. He also has written seven children’s books, including the fiction series “Jack and the Geniuses.” He holds a mechanical engineering degree from Cornell University He was elected the American Humanist Association’s 2010 Humanist of the Year.
