ST. PAUL, Minn. – The state Natural Resources Department called on Minnesotans to identify ways to reduce home-water use and consider cutting back into the future. More than 75% of Minnesotans rely on groundwater for their water supply, said Sarah Strommen, DNR commissioner.  “DNR is taking the drought seriously,” Strommen said. “We have a robust plan in place, strong partnerships across the state, and continue to take actions to respond to the current situation.” Strommen.  noted that occasional water level fluctuations are natural, normal and beneficial to ecosystems. Nonetheless, she said, there are negative effects tourism, recreation, agriculture, businesses and other water-dependent activities.
