FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — The newly elected chair of student Republicans at University of St. Thomas has been arrested as a sex trafficker. Gisela Castro Medina, 19, a St. Thomas sophomore, was arrested along with Anton “Tony” Lazzaro, who is well-connected in Minnesota GOP circles.. Lazarro, 30, was arrested in Sherburne County, Minnesota, and held in the Elk River jail. Castro Medin was arrested in Okaloosa County in the Florida Panhandle. Both arrests were Thursday on FBI warrants from Minnesota. The charges: Conspiring to commit sex trafficking of minors and obstructing justice. The College Republicans club at St. Thomas quickly distanced itself from Castro Medina. The club said she had not yet assumed office. The Minneapolis university, however, lists her as the official club contact on its roster of student organizations. A statement from the club said it was “absolutely disgusted by the actions of Ms. Medina,” not comporting with the usual innocent until unproven guilty concept at the heart American jurisprudence. To be clear: Castro Median has not had her day in court. The club said it had “cut all ties with her effective immediately.”

Castro Medina. Sophomore at 9,800-student University of St. Thomas. Graduate of Delano High School in the western Minneapolis exurbs.

Lazarro. With Minnesota Property Management, which lines up tenants for apartment owners, handles repairs, and collects rent.
