LACROSSE, Wis. – A long-time radio news director, Mitch Reynolds, was elected mayor. Reynolds defeated Vicki Markussen by only 205 votes. Reynolds will replace Tim Kabat, who chose not to seek reelection amid criticism over handling a groundwater contamination crisis from the toxics at the city airport. Reynolds was news director at WIZM and sibling stations for 16 years, More recently he was with WholeTrees, which manufactures wood construction components from sustainable forests. Although the mayoral position is nonpartisan, Reynolds had support from the county Democratic Party.
