WINONA, Minn. – Firefighter extinguished two wildfires in the wooded bluffs – one three-quarters of an acre near Devil’s Cave, up the bluffs behind the Dahl auto dealership., and another one a 10th of an acre on the slope under Garvin Heights. Smoke was reported from Sarnia Street a quarter-mile way about 7:25 p.m.  Fire Chief Curt Bittle paged all off-duty firefighters to climb to the fires. Flames were out by 9 o’clock. West Lake Boulevard, along the bluffs and by Woodlawn cemetery, was blocked off 1-1/2 miles from Huff Street to Clarks Lane. There were no injuries. Chief Bittle said the Garvin Heights fire was accidental. About the Devil’s Cave fire he was not so sure.
