MINNEAPOLIS – One of 11 people who died from the dangerous drug fentanyl distributed by an online drug-dealer was a University of Minnesota economics professor, television station WCCO reported. The station identified the professor as Jason M. Beddow. He was found dead in his office on the St. Paul campus in April 2016. In court records he had been listed only as “V-2.” Beddow, 41, joined the University of Minnesota faculty in 2013. He conducted cutting-edge research in food security. Earlier he was at Virginia Tech. It was believed that Beddow probably thought he was buying the fairly common and less potent albeit also illegal stimulant Adderall. Apparently he purchased the drug from a dealer in the western Minneapolis suburb of Hopkins, who sold the drug with the fatal fentanyl content. Nationwide there have been 11 overdose deaths linked to the Hopkins dealer.
