BRUCE, Wis. – Village leaders may close one of two village wells as an interim solution to possible manganese poisoning. Tests have found manganese levels unacceptable but more so in one well. Meanwhile, bottled water is being shipped in. Also, said Village President Shane Trott, a fill-up station may be set up at the village hall for filtered water. A permanent solution, Trott said, could be drilling a new well or installing a new filtration system, but those options, he said, could take three to five years and require federal or state grants. The village school, meanwhile, is relying on donated water while it awaits test results from its own filtration system.
