LACROSSE, Wis. – Viterbo University expelled the student who has been charged with setting fire in a dorm while 90 other students slept. In a statement to news media, university President Glena Temple didn’t identify Victoria C. Unanka by name. Temple said: “The internal arson investigation has concluded and procedural steps are underway to expel the student found to be responsible. This person will not return to Viterbo.” It is believed that Unanka has returned to her home country. The statement suggested a second person was involved in racist and otherwise hateful messages found on campus. Forensic handwriting analysis eliminated several persons of interest and left one remaining person of interest, Temple said. A definitive handwriting match could not be established, but the remaining person of interest will no longer “be part of the Viterbo campus community,” Temple said. “Despite our best efforts, we may never be able to definitively prove who wrote the hate-filled messages, including both the racist and anti-LGBTQ+ incidents.”
