CHATFIELD, Minn. – A turkey vulture flew into an electrical substation and short-circuited power delivery to 1,200 customers in Chatfield and neighboring townships. Power was out a couple hours. People’s Energy Co-op explained that the vulture flapped its wings, which have a six-foot span, and simultaneously linked wires that shouldn’t be linked. The bird died. Dark humor around town was that People’s Co-Op was offering fried turkey sandwiches for lunch, dark meat only, as an apology for any inconvenience.
