APPLE VALEY, Minn. – An orchestrated campaign ostensibly to restore balance in the teaching of American history has targeted several major Minnesota school districts. Local groups with various names, all fronting for a national project that is disrupting schools, have flooded school authorities with demands for documents. There also are hundreds of demands for documents from individuals in the movement. The Rosemont-Apple Valley-Eagan schools, for example, has hired two part-time employees to gather, sort and deliver the data requests. The district’s spokesperson, Tony Taschner, said that one of the requests was so large it resulted in 6,000 pages of documentation. A commonality in the campaign is a premise, never demonstrated, that schools have conspired to brain-wash students to see U.S. history through a multi-cultural lens, which the groups demonize as critical race theory. The anti-CRT thinking coincides with white supremist interpretations.
