ST. PAUL, Minn. – A Stoddard, Wisconsin, company, Water Works Dock & Boat Lift, has been hired to restore Mississippi River islands and fish habitats for 40 miles south of LaCrosse. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said it was paying $2.4 million for the project, which is expected to take two years. The restoration addresses damage from 2019 flooding and consecutive years of high water. There is erosion at several islands, some of which were submerged more than 90 days in 2019. Deep backwater fish habitats filled with sediment.
