ST. PAUL, Minn. — Thomas “Tom” W. Gibson, 47, of Winona, a graduate of Cotter High School in Winona with degrees in theology and business from Saint Mary’s University, died unexpectedly from a pulmonary embolism, at Regions Hospital, St. Paul. He spent 10 years as a mental health practitioner in the Twin Cities, and more recently in the family business, Whetstone Machine in Winona. He enjoyed meeting people as a Lyft driver. In life he faced major medical challenges but regularly delivered communion to the homebound and was a lector. Driven by his Irish ancestry, he taught himself to play the fiddle and sing U2 songs.
