WINONA, Minn. – A man out with friends on a hot afternoon drowned after jumping off a bridge at a popular swimming spot off Latsch Island, across the Mississippi River from Winona. Rescuers were called about 4 p.m. Resuscitation efforts failed. Witnesses said the man was with four other people. They saw him struggling to stay above the water before going under.
