MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Supreme Court refused 4-3 to hear President Donald Trump’s lawsuit attempting to overturn his loss in the November 3 election. The decision was procedural. The Court told Trump that he should have followed normal procedure and begun the case in a county court rather than going first to the Supreme Court. Trump attorney Jim Troupis responded that he would immediately file the case in a county court. Trump had argued that there wasn’t enough time to start in a lower court, given the mid-December deadline presidential electors cast their votes.

Conservative Justice Brian Hagedorn joined three liberal justices in denying Trump’s challenge to the Wisconsin general election. In her dissent, Chief Justice Patience Roggensack said she would have preferred taking the case directly. Conservative Justice Rebecca Bradley said the Court “forsakes its duty” by not determining whether elections officials messed up. Conservative Justice Annette Ziegler called the election “an indelible stain” on the proper conduct of an election.
