BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The president or the Ho-Chunk Nation, Marlon WhiteEagle, applauded the pressure from Native People and major corporations to force the Washington football owner Dan Snyder to commit to dropping the team name “Redskins.” “We are not mascots,” White Eagle said. He singled out the campaign of Susan Harjo and Amanda Blackhorse for dropping the name “Redskins,” which many Indians consider a racial slur. WhiteEagle also thanked FedEx, Nike and other corporate sponsors. Snyder, meanwhile, has invited ideas for renaming the team.
