WASHINTON – Congressman Jim Hagedorn, whose represents southern Minnesota, remained aligned with President Trump even after the Capitol was invaded by mobs of Trump-inspired insurrectionists. Hagedorn stayed with a Republican House minority that opposed certification of the election results from Arizona and Pennsylvania. It had been a Republican minority against certification, but some of the those members peeled off the Trump position after the invasion. – but not Hagedorn. He said he was motivated by princiole. Hagedorn remained concerned about states making what he called “wholesale changes to election laws without the consent of respective state legislatures.” At the same time, Hagedorn spoke against the mob invasion: “Storming the U.S. Capitol is not acceptable, and I condemn in the strongest possible terms those who have breached the area and disrupted House and Senate deliberations. As Americans, this is not how we settle debates and disagreements. It is time for calm and order.”

For our republic and the Electoral College process to properly function, the U.S. Constitution must be respected. My votes today are intended to encourage state legislatures to reclaim their authority and restore election integrity. Moving forward, Electoral College inequities must be addressed in a timely fashion by state legislatures, and, when necessary, the U.S. Supreme Court. Lastly, I continue to advocate for a commission, created by Congress and comprised of House, Senate and Supreme Court members, to perform a forensic audit of the 2020 presidential election.”
